PRESCHOOL & PRE-K PROGRAM

Mt. Calvary Lutheran ECC is accredited by National Lutheran Schools Association (NLSA) and serves families with children who are 2 – 5 years of age (potty training available). All of our highly qualified teaching staff are trained in early childhood education and meet all state requirements to teach preschoolers. Most importantly, all are Christian teachers who have a passionate love for your children!

Approach to Excellence

In partnership with its parents and stakeholders, Mt. Calvary Lutheran ECC strives to empower a diverse community united by Christ and to establish a strong foundation of academic excellence.

Curriculum and interactions foster positive identity and a sense of emotional well-being.  Social skills are developed by honoring the values of respect, diversity, and empathy.
Children are encouraged to think, reason, question, problem solve, and experiment as they develop through active learning. Print rich learning environments and an extensive choice of materials facilitate language, literacy, and math development appropriate to each age group.
Children are free to express themselves through individual and social play.  The individual learning style of each child is valued and fostered.
Time, space, and tools are provided in the classroom and outside for active play to develop gross and fine motor skills.
Spiritual growth is developed in all children through activities involving Bible stories and songs, understanding the importance of Jesus’ love, attending weekly Children’s Chapel, and instilling the importance of treating others in a Christian way at all times.

Preschool Curriculum

Our developmentally appropriate programs provide opportunities for children to broaden and deepen their knowledge by providing a variety of media and experiences such as drawing, painting, construction of models, dramatic play, story time, music, movement, science, cooking and writing. Our nurturing environment is designed to encourage a balance of child initiated and teacher supported exploration activities. We encourage the “total growth” of the whole child in the following areas:

Weekly Children’s Chapel, prayer, “Jesus Time”, Bible verses and stories
Letter recognition, phonics, writing, reading, memory recall, listening skills, vocabulary
Saxon Math, sequencing, patterning, sorting, numbers 1-50, shapes, money concepts, time, measurements, problem solving
American history, presidents, states, Pledge of Allegiance, Star Spangled Banner
Life, earth, “All about me”, animals, environment, plants, solar system, bugs, sensory skills, explore God’s creation
Shapes, size, texture, color, imagination, self-expression, pleasure through art
Outdoor activities, bike riding, balance beam, teacher directed games, large and small motor movements
Finger plays, nursery rhymes, songs, dancing, rhythm, instruments, dramatic play, expressing ideas and feelings through music
Blocks, large and small manipulatives, puzzles, clay, playdough, sand and water

“Mt. Calvary is the first and only preschool my son toured. When he looked at the classrooms and met with the teachers, he refused to look at other preschools. My son has been a student at Mt. Calvary for almost 2 years and, he is so happy! I am so grateful to this school and the teachers for making this a great place to learn and grow!”
