Our planning is focused on an on-time opening of the Mt Calvary School Year on August 12, 2020, under the theme:  “A Piece of God’s Plan.”  Like other schools in California, we do not know what the public health status of our community or state will be in August. However, with the distinct advantages of our small class sizes and hilltop campus, we are optimistic that we will be able to safely open for school in accordance with state and local guidelines.

The Re-Opening Guidelines that we will develop and follow in planning for the 2020-21 school year will be set forth in a detailed strategy based on the following:

Health Orders and Guidelines from the County and State.  Plans for screening protocols, physical distancing guidelines, group density policy, sanitizing equipment, cleaning supplies and sanitary polices will be our highest priority.  We will consider the health and well-being of all students, faculty and staff on campus at MCL our highest priority.  We will follow all guidelines outlined by the local, state, and national health governing authorities, as well as the suggested procedures offered by the School Ministries Office of the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Enrollment Management.  Instructional organization and classroom protocols will be based on student population at each grade level, as we consider best practices regarding the various staffing needs required by our curriculum. Student to teacher ratios will need to be considered so that budgetary guidelines can be maintained for balanced financial management of the overall Mt Calvary mission.

Curricular and Programmatic Operations.  Various adaptations and schedules will need to be considered based on distancing guidelines. We will create safe classroom usage models, gym occupancy by classes, sports programs, office visitation procedures, school lunch program, chapel gatherings, special events with families, as well as recess and lunch schedules in the planning of our fall activity schedule.  As always, it will be our goal to assure the continued delivery of our MCL advanced curriculum to the standards required of our accrediting agencies.

Our Preschool is now open again, welcoming a limited number of students back to campus. Our Student Age Care (SAC) Program will start their summer session on June 1st with a limited number of students as well. Please know, we will be monitoring the health situation of children entrusted to our care on a daily basis.

We sincerely look forward to welcoming our students, families, teachers, and staff back to campus with appropriate safety modifications in place later this summer.

We hope to be seeing you soon. Have a safe summer!
